RIND believes that when it comes to fruit, it’s what’s on the ‘outside’ that counts. Launched in 2018, RIND makes a line of peel-powered superfruit that’s tangy, delicious and extra nutritious. RIND’s recipe is simple – they use the the fruit, the whole fruit and nothing but the fruit for a maximum peel-powered punch! By preserving the most nutritious segment, each flavor is packed with up to three times more fiber and vitamins than traditional dried fruit and contain nothing but delicious slices of USA-grown products with no added sugars or preservatives. The line includes three flavors, including the single-ingredient California Kiwi and two blends: Tropical (bittersweet orange, organic pineapple, kiwi) and Orchard (persimmon, apple, peach). Each SKU comes in 1.5-ounce single-serve and 3-ounce re-sealable pouches.

RIND Snacks are available for drop-ship as well as distribution via partners: Chex Finer Foods and Nassau Candy. Products are currently sold in over 200+ specialty markets, including Whole Foods, Fairway, Kings, Balducci’s, Foragers, Gourmet Garage, Hudson Market, Chelsea Market Baskets, Orchard Grocer and more.

Matt Weiss

Founder Matt Weiss drew inspiration to launch RIND Snacks from his great-grandmother, a health food pioneer who sold natural foods from her “Stay-Well” health shop in Flint, Michigan in the 1920s. Her mission to never waste food and to use every part of the produce, including the rind (known for its concentrated health benefits), planted the seed for Weiss to create his own health food empire decades later. For Weiss, RIND Snacks represents his great-grandmother’s passion for both personal health and environmental sustainability, a notion that was way before her time.

Discarded and edible fruit peels are a major component of the food scraps that account for over 21% of total municipal waste in the U.S. and are part of more than 38 million tons of food discarded every year. The thought of providing tasty snacks that not only reduce waste, but provides wholesome nutrition for everyone – from kids to millennials to grandparents – is what keeps Weiss motivated to keep his great-grandmother’s legacy alive.
