Industry:                 Cinema, Black Film, Events

Our goal is to regularly host immersive cinema experiences which focus on Black film. This brand promise is important to us because we need more black stories told on both the big and small screen

  • We create exclusive and celebratory cinema experiences around black film.

  • We combine live performers with spectacular immersive surroundings to create an unforgettable cinema experience.

  • We create an environment to socialise with friends and create new memories from classic films.

The story of Amacoast began 8 years ago while its founder, Dele Aro, was still in University studying for a degree in Business Management. Back then, it was just, a DVD distribution platform for Black Films. With many iterations and many more learning curves, Dele Aro and his fiancé Kandi Ejiofor created their first event in February 2015 (honouring Black History Month); an interactive pop up cinema celebrating the 15th anniversary of Love and Basketball.

Dele Aro - Founder

For a long time, Dele was frustrated by the lack of diverse black male images in mainstream media. Too often the same narrow images are projected: athlete, criminal, musician, and the comedic personality (the images of black women are even more narrow).

What he finds most concerning is the potential impact these narrow stereotypes have in terms of the expectations the black community set for themselves and the expectations set for them by others. He sees Amacoast as in the very early steps of a journey to tackling this problem head on with cinema being a great way to showcase and celebrate diverse black images.
