StrongHer is a UK-based female-only fitness and nutrition brand with a mission to educate and empower women to take back control of their fitness, nutrition, and overall wellbeing. Through accessible workshops, classes, and online content, they seek to demystify resistance training and teach women about what constitutes a balanced and healthy diet, allowing them to restore and build upon their self-worth and confidence.
StrongHer provides women with the tools and knowledge to create meaningful and sustainable lifestyle changes, all while supported by a community of real women during every step of their journey.
StrongHer is passion project and forward-thinking fitness concept designed by personal trainers and former professional dancers Lyanne Hodson (Li-FT in the City) and Sam Prynn (SPPT). Their combined energy and enthusiasm help women of all shapes, sizes, cultures, and backgrounds uncover their true potentials, enhance self-worth, and improve confidence in safe, fun, and supportive environments.
Like many women, both Lyanne and Sam initially viewed “fitness” as a chore consisting of endless hours of cardio and ridiculous fad diets. This ultimately resulted in unhealthy relationships with both food and their bodies. After
deciding to leave the dance industry, both women received their PT certifications so they could better understand their bodies in a more positive light.
All the conflicting views and research within the fitness industry made it difficult for them to find sound advice and guidance, especially for women. Lyanne and Sam had grown tired of living in a world increasingly emphasising
clothes size as a measure of self-worth and made a commitment to end our perilous obsession with taking the “perfect” selfie. By re-educating women about effective fitness routines and truly balanced diets, the two are
determined to initiate a paradigm shift in the way we view ourselves overall. StrongHer’s mission is to rewire the contemporary woman, allowing her to recognise all her strengths and the beauty of individuality in hopes that future generations will not suffer from the same lack of confidence. By changing how we understand nutrition and fitness, StrongHer aims to remind women that nobody is perfect – that we all struggle with mistakes, lack of confidence in our abilities, and fear of judgment from others. Instead of focusing on these “weaknesses”, StrongHer pushes past them. StrongHer is where modern women warriors are made.
StrongHer currently runs regular weekly classes at three venues around Shoreditch and Farringdon in London. Every 12 weeks, they also hold an ultimate workshop during which women receive all the tools they need to develop sustainable fitness regimes and are taught the basics of proper nutrition. Through their Facebook forum, women can also engage in productive and supportive conversations with others.
Lyanne, has always been an athletic individual but like any teenager that embarks on University and endures long term relationships, she found herself on massive booze binges, takeaways and always trying to have the same size portion on as her boyfriend….so much so that she found herself at a point where she didn’t recognise herself.
Post university years she pursued and lived out a career as a professional dancer, using cardio as her main fitness and eating whatever she liked as in her mind she was still the athletic build of her younger years, however under the scrutiny that the dance industry places on a young female she began realising that she was larger and curvier than most girls being booked. From this point she began undertaking diet such as paleo, egg and grapefruit diet, spent £200 on P90x to try and rid of what she felt at the time was undesirable.
It was only upon becoming a part time receptionist at a Chain Gym in 2013 that she was introduced to weight training by her colleagues. Seeing the changes in her own body and how she perceived herself ignited her ambition to pursue Personal training. Upon qualifying as a PT she realised how little she and other women knew about how to treat, train and view their bodies and the further she had researched into the industry, the more flaws and holes she sees. So throughout the last 4 years as a trainer Lyanne has undertook a range of research in order to not just train her clients but educate them on how important lifting weights is to physical and mental health as well as how to eat happily and healthily and not punish or restrict themselves- she very much encourages her clients to not focus so much on what they look like as opposed to what they lift, that strength is beautiful and that they should always face a challenge head on and not be afraid of failing.
The idea that a woman isn’t capable of doing something is not something that Lyanne agrees with as she knows what she has personally has taken on and continues to take on to get where she wants- but in the same respect if women don’t know and don’t feel they have the support then how can they change and this is something integral that she brings to StrongHer.
Having come from a professional dance background, Sam faced huge struggles with body confidence which in turn led her to a huge struggle with her nutrition. After stepping out of the dance industry and following her passion of fitness as a female only personal trainer, she then decided she wanted to educate women fully on fitness & nutrition & help those who faced similar struggles she had had previously, and with the help of her best friend Lyanne, StrongHer was created. Being a huge believer in balance, she also has a mission to help women believe and trust that they don’t have to deprive themselves of life (and prosecco) whilst being on their fitness journey and/or reaching goals/results they wish for.
Let’s face it – there’s a lot of misguided advice about their in fitness and wellbeing. Cut through the noise with StrongHer, who’ll be hosting a weekend of talks and workshops full of fundamentals and myth-busting.
