Born in the U.K., Buddha Teas founder John Boyd grew up immersed in the culture of tea. After moving to the United States in 2006, he realized that his typically unadulterated tea choices were limited. With a desire to create an expanded selection for tea lovers seeking purity like himself, John became inspired to develop a tea company to fill the gap. He approached his longtime business partner, entrepreneur Nicholas Marier, with an idea to launch an unadulterated, healthy tea company. They teamed up, gathered together an exceptional team, and Buddha Teas was born.John’s passion for utilizing herbs as healing agents also contributed to his goal to create a complete tea company that would offer consumers high quality, sustainably sourced, single-ingredient herbal teas alongside white, green, and black varieties.
John Boyd and Nicholas Marier
Born and raised in Middlesbrough, England, John Boyd always rebelled against the status quo. Bypassing college, he worked and traveled throughout Europe as a seismic surveyor. His experiences abroad inspired a passion for culture, cuisine, and Eastern wellness practices.
John later earned his B.A. in Civil Engineering from Leeds University and went on to manage water-sector engineering projects across England. In 2006, he left the UK in pursuit of a new adventure and settled in San Diego. The Southern California culture reignited his passion for health and wellness, ultimately leading to the creation of Buddha Teas. Today, John lives in Cardiff-by-the-Sea with his young daughter, Skyler Rose.
A native of Southern California, Nicholas grew up in a culture focused on living a healthy lifestyle. Outdoor activities, including exercising and enjoying nature, were part of his daily life. After receiving a B.A. in Film and Electronic Arts from Cal State University Long Beach, he moved back to his hometown of Oceanside.
This is when Nicholas set out on a corporate path, one that resulted in a career in entrepreneurship. These days, you will find Nicholas in Del Mar, continuing to enjoy the outdoors by surfing, hiking, or gardening, and, of course, drinking tea!
